High desert at late afternoon, pale mesas layered to the horizon and a low resort building folded into the land

SEVENMILE MESA, UTAH

Arroyo

A resort of thirty-four suites and eight casitas, set low in a fold of the high desert. Built from the ground it stands on; open the year round.

Suites

Framed views of mesa and wash, stone floors underfoot, and light that does the decorating. Every suite faces empty land.

Casitas

Eight freestanding houses a short walk from the main building, each with its own courtyard, fire and plunge pool.

ACCOMMODATION

Rooms that stay out of the way

Four suite types and the casitas, from 60 to 210 square metres. Stone, plaster, timber; nothing that argues with the view.

A narrow slot canyon with sculpted sandstone walls glowing where light bounces between them

EXPERIENCES

Into the wash

Slot canyons, rim trails and night skies — guided, or maps at the desk for the stubborn.

Steam lifting off a bathing pool cut into pale rock, one shaft of sunlight entering from above

WELLNESS

The bathhouse

Hot and cold pools cut into the rock, and treatment rooms that smell of cedar.

A long oak table set simply for dinner beside floor-to-ceiling glass opening onto the desert at dusk

DINING

One kitchen, two tables

A dining room that follows the sun, and a fire terrace that follows the dark. The menu is written the same morning it is cooked.
