Exams & imaging

The check-up, and what we write down afterwards.

A check-up here takes about forty minutes. We go through each tooth and any existing work, measure the gums, look at how your teeth meet, and check the soft tissue. Digital images are taken when the interval is due or when something specific prompts them, not by default at every visit.

We photograph anything we are describing so you can look at it on the screen rather than take our word for it. Everything goes into a written note, including the things we are only watching. When there is nothing to do, we say there is nothing to do and book the next one.

Cleanings & gum care

Charting, scaling, polishing, and the technique conversation.

A hygienist charts the gum measurements first, then removes deposits with an ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments and polishes afterwards. If you have had a rough time with cleanings before, tell us at the start and we work in shorter passes with breaks you control.

The last ten minutes are spent on technique — flossing, brushing, whatever the charting suggests is being missed — at whatever pace you want it. Where the measurements point to a deeper cleaning, we explain what that involves, how many visits it takes and what it costs, and you decide when.

Fillings & crowns

Composite fillings, scanned crowns, and the bite check afterwards.

Fillings are composite, shaded against the tooth beside them. We numb first, then wait and check the numbness has taken before anything else happens — that wait is built into the appointment length rather than borrowed from it.

Crowns start with a digital scan instead of impression putty. You wear a temporary while the lab works, and we check the bite when the crown is fitted and again two weeks later. Old work that is holding up gets left alone; we will tell you when we think something is worth watching rather than replacing.

Alignment consults

Records, options explained, and a referral when a case needs one.

An alignment consult is a conversation and a set of records: photographs, a digital scan, and a look at how your teeth meet. We go through what clear aligners involve and what fixed braces involve — the appointment rhythm, how long each tends to run, what each costs here.

Some cases belong with an orthodontist and we say so on the day rather than starting something and handing it over later. Nothing gets booked at the consult itself; you take the records home and come back to us if you want to.

Whitening

Shade records, custom trays, and a follow-up two weeks in.

We start by looking at the work already in your mouth. Crowns, veneers and composite fillings do not change colour with whitening gel, so we show you on the photographs where an edge would become visible. A hygiene visit comes first, because the surface has to be clean for anything to sit evenly against it.

Then we record the starting shade, make trays from a digital scan, and go through how the gel is used at home. We do not promise a shade, and we do not put a number on it — anyone who does is guessing. You come back after two weeks so we can look at how your teeth and gums are responding, and we slow it down or stop if there is sensitivity.

Same-day problems

Two slots held every morning for pain and breakages.

Two appointments are held open every weekday morning for pain, a broken tooth, or something that has come loose. Call and describe what is happening. If we cannot fit you in the same day we tell you straight away instead of booking you into the middle of next week.

A visit like this goes to the cause: we look, image if we need to, and tell you what we found. Anything larger is planned properly afterwards, on a day set aside for it, rather than decided in a rush while you are still uncomfortable.
